School Garden Initiative

Partnering with schools to create gardens and teach students about sustainable agriculture and healthy eating habits.

YAHI's School Garden Initiative aims to promote food education and hands-on learning among young people. The program involves establishing gardens in schools, where students can learn about food production, nutrition, and environmental sustainability. By engaging in gardening activities, students can develop skills such as teamwork, problem-solving, and critical thinking, while also gaining a deeper appreciation for the natural world.

The School Garden Initiative has several components, including garden design and planning, planting and maintenance, and food preparation and consumption. Students are involved in all stages of the gardening process, from seed to harvest, and have the opportunity to learn about different aspects of food production, such as soil health, water management, and pest control. They also learn about healthy eating and food preparation, and have the opportunity to taste and share the fruits of their labor.

The School Garden Initiative has several benefits. Firstly, it promotes food education and hands-on learning, helping young people to develop a deeper understanding of the food system and their role in it. It also promotes environmental sustainability by encouraging the adoption of sustainable gardening practices and reducing food miles. Finally, it has social benefits, promoting teamwork, community engagement, and a sense of accomplishment among students.
